Minimum mandatory sentences have helped ruin the criminal justice system. So has punishing people for exercising their right to trial. Prosecutorial overreach is also a problem.
One of the victims of mandatory minimums is Orville Wollard of Davenport, FL. He is now serving 20 years at Apalachee Correctional for, essentially, trying to protect his family in his own home.
