The role of the Grand Jury in investigating instances of public corruption is frequently overlooked. While the Grand Jury is given instructions by the Court at the beginning of their term, many who serve do not realize that they may investigate wrong-doing, independently, and not just at the direction of the State Attorney. At the link that follows is a great discussion of this issue, out of Broward County, where there have been ongoing problems with potential corruption in local government.
